I am writing to you from my balcony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
The wind is howling and yet, I am completely protected by this open space.
The waves hit so hard sometimes it sounds like thunder, and the constant hum offers this potent reminder that life, regardless of how slow or stagnant it may seem, continues to move right along.
Moving is notoriously exhausting and tedious. I have felt out of place since going back to my childhood home. Taking the essentials out of the basement storage and never fully settling in.
If I settled in, I would feel an obligation to stay.
I often question what we are and are not willing to tolerate. That each one of us has a tipping point, and the more we deny what is draining us, our complacency grows.
It makes it harder to relieve ourselves from the clutches of what we know we are unhappy with, and offer open arms to what we are curious and longing for.
I found this is much easier to do when we have less baggage in all forms.
No longer carrying the past.
No longer holding on to clothing/accessories that do not fit physically or align with our current style and identity.
Relationships that do not serve us that we believe we are obligated to stay in.
Letting go of my most prized possessions, my closest friendships, and my beloved first home has all taught me this:
absolutely nothing is guaranteed.
All we can expect is that life will keep moving and changing whether we like it or not.
As we approach this changing of the seasons and honor the fall equinox, I'll leave you with this quote:
“All that you touch, you change.
All that you change, changes you.
The only lasting truth is change.”
― Octavia E. Butler
May you embrace change with a warm, welcoming hug.
